The history of our section dates back to 1999 when sensei Jurij Kerpan sensei began teaching Yoshinkan Aikido in Brno officially. After several years of practice in the Stary Liskovec (part of Brno city) we moved closer to the city center and now we practicing at Veveří 15. We are a civic association - a non-profit organization. Currently we are in the Czech Sokol and looking for a place where we finally settled in their own premises.
Our dojo is officially registered in Japan under the name Boyokan. This name was originally set up as a combination of the names of Brno and Yoshinkan. After a visit to Japan by our two members in 2009 it was a great honor for us when the one of the best instructors of Yoshinkan Aikido in the world, Tsuneo Ando Shihan, give to this name meaning and calligraphic form. Boyokan loosely translated means "Place where you can see the light (goal, hope ...)". For the Japanese it is almost essential to any name had meaning - if not, it seems to them a very empty.
Our dojo instructors regularly participate in international seminars in the Czech Republic and abroad. We also organizes courses of Yohinkan Aikido for children and self-defenses as well. We co-operating with the Czech Sokol Organization and with some primary schools in Brno.
Aikido was founded by Japanese master Morihei UESHIBA (1883 - 1969) about 75 years ago. Origins of Aikido are in Daito Aikijutsu (900 AC) which was kept only by members of Japanese royal family until in first half of 19th century Sokaku TAKEDA start to teach it outside.
Master Morihei UESHIBA build from old Japanese martial art's technics very powerfull art with unique philosophy.
Competitors in aikido seek for harmony between body and mind powers including harmony between other people as well as with potential attackers. For defense no great strength is needed - it is replaced by dexterity and with special kind of movement, which allow to avoid atact and keep mental and physical ascendancy over atacker (KI power). Own atacker's energy is used to paralyze him. Aikido is suitable for everybody.
