Basic info about our dojo

The history of our section dates back to 1999 when sensei Jiri Kerpan sensei began teaching Yoshinkan Aikido in Brno officially. After several years of practice in the Stary Liskovec (part of Brno city) we moved closer to the city center and now we practicing in the new gym at Masaryk's University Campus in Brno-Bohunice area. We are a civic association - a non-profit organization. Currently we are in the Czech Sokol and looking for a place where we finally settled in their own premises.

Our dojo is officially registered in Japan under the name Boyokan. This name was originally set up as a combination of the names of Brno and Yoshinkan. After a visit to Japan by our two members in 2009 it was a great honor for us when the one of the best instructors of Yoshinkan Aikido in the world, Tsuneo Ando Shinan, give to this name meaning and calligraphic form. Boyokan loosely translated means "Place where you can see the light (goal, hope ...)". For the Japanese it is almost essential to any name had meaning - if not, it seems to them a very empty.

Our dojo instructors regularly participate in international seminars in the Czech Republic and abroad. We also organizes courses of Yohinkan Aikido for children and self-defenses as well. We co-operating with the Czech Sokol Organization and with some primary schools in Brno.
